For those of us who love golf, there is no such thing as "golfing season." The sport can be played year-round, in many locations around the world.

Even in the US, there are probably as many as 20 states where you can golf year-round.

For those of you who live and breathe golf but have to battle harsh winters, the question isn't so much "when is golfing season?" as it is "is it golfing season yet?

And, for the average golfer, or shall we say, seasonal golfer, there are definitely times of the year when conditions are more ideal for playing a round or two.

So, when is the golfing season? The answer is: it depends on who you ask! In this blog post, we'll explore the different factors that can affect the golfing season and take a trip around the globe to find out when to play. By the end, we hope you'll have a better understanding of this age-old question.

The Weather's Effect on Golfing Season

One of the most obvious factors that can affect when the golfing season is has to do with the weather. After all, it's not very pleasant to try and play a round of golf in freezing temperatures or driving rain. For most people, then, golfing season probably falls during the spring and fall months when the weather is more conducive to playing.

Of course, there are always exceptions to this rule. Some people don't mind braving colder temperatures in order to get their fix of golf. And there are even some indoor facilities where you can play year-round no matter what the weather is like outside! So if you're determined enough, you can technically play golf any time of year. Where you Live Plays a Big Role

In some parts of the country, golfers can hit the links year-round. But for those of you in colder climates, you have to wait for the weather to warm up before you can start swinging your clubs again. Here's a breakdown by region:

The Northeast

Golfing season in the Northeast starts in early April and lasts through November unless that early snowstorm shuts down your course earlier.

The Midwest

Golfing season in the majority of states will start in March or April and typically run through early November. However, golfers in Kansas can enjoy 9 months of golf from March through December.

The South

There are several states with year-round golf: Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia. Delaware and West Virginia are from March/April to November.

The Southeast

These states are year-round with the exception of Kentucky which is March to Nov./Dec.

The Southwest

All of these states are year-round.

The Mountain West

Arizona and New Mexico are year-round as are Southern Nevada and Southern Utah. The north of these 2 states and the rest are March/April to November.

The West

California and Hawaii are obviously year-round. The rest are from March/April to Nov/Dec.

Canada

Canada is similar to the Northeast. However, the further north you go in Canada the greater the risk that an early winter or late spring storm condenses the April to November season.

Europe

The golfing season in Europe, similar to that of the United States, greatly varies depending on location. The seasons can be very similar to the US. The farther north you go the later the season may start, perhaps May instead of April.

March through October is typically peak time for golfers everywhere though year-to-year weather fluctuation may shift this timeline slightly.

The Southern Hemisphere

In the Southern Hemisphere, the golfing season is reversed, running from fall to spring. This is due to the fact that the seasons are reversed in this part of the world; thus, springtime in the Southern Hemisphere corresponds with autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. Again, there are always exceptions; in much of Australia and good parts of New Zealand, for example, golf can be played year-round without any issues.

At the end of the day, whether or not it's "golfing season" really comes down to personal definition. For example, if you live in Scotland then you're used to playing in chilly weather and might not even think twice about teeing off in February. For some people, it might be anytime the weather is warm enough to play comfortably. For others, it might be when the course they usually play opens up for business after winter. And for others still, it might simply be whenever they have the time to throw their golf shoes in a golf bag for shoes and hit the road for warm weather and an open course.

Asking a group of people when the golfing season is will likely yield a variety of answers because there isn't one right answer to this question. It really depends on factors like the weather and your location as well as your personal definition of what "golfing season" means. So next time someone asks you when the golfing season is, take a moment to think about your answer before responding. Chances are, they're just as curious as you are about this age-old question!
